Simple Product Photography with Sony Wireless Flash System – Single Flash

To all my fellow Alpha strobes user out there,

Finally I’ve managed to get this little tutorial video done and posted on Youtube.  This is a very fast and quick workflow that one can use to get simple balanced lighting results with using only one flash.  Do check out the video …

Do write back to us if you do have any questions on the content of this video.

    Hi Sulhan

Long time Minolta/Sony user near Melbourne who is only now getting into using studio lighting. Thanks for the tips and your site it’s been really useful. Can you let us know what your aperture and shutter speeds were and why you selected them?

Also under Files>Scripts in PS you can select “Load Files into Stack… which will load all selected images into layers in one image which will save you a bit of time. If you do this rather than “Place” images you will also not need to rasterise the layers.

        Hi again,
i have problem. i have a65 and yn560. What do you think about these staffs wireless capabilities without any extra tools.yn560 is working on s1 mod – i mean yes flash is triggered by a65’s built in flash- but i suppose there is same senkron problems or something, because flash-yn560- is working but there is no any effect to photos!!!

What is this, do you have any idea?

        Thahs again.

        Hi Yavuz,

Thank you for dropping by and sharing this question. I’m sure that there will be some people out there experiencing the same problem. As far as I know, for most of the newer third party flashes like the Yongnuo, they offer a second mode.
In case if you are not aware, the Sony Alpha Flash system works with a Pre-Flash. This is true for the DLSR/SLT system. They require pre-flash due to the metering sequence for the DLSR.

As the actual firing of the fill in flash (second flash) is what you want to use to trigger the Yongnuo flash, from my brief research, if you want to use the Yongnuo flash to be a slave, it needs to be set to S2 Mode. In S2 mode, the flash will fire only on the second instance of flash fired from the Sony on-board camera flash.

Please do try this out and see if this solves your problem.
