LiteDome XS – Quick Test

4.  Quick Test to check the setup

Once the LiteDome XS has been setup properly, it can then be tested for any blockage if the setup is to be used with the Alpha Flashes in wireless mode.  The whole rig is mounted onto a light stand as shown.  In this setup, the Giottos MH-1003 ballhead’s 3/8″ Inch screw mount matches perfectly to my 3/8″ Inch light stand.

Using my camera and the flash all setup for wireless , I made a quick shot through a mirror to demonstrate how the lighting with the LiteDome would look like.

As you can see, the wireless worked perfectly and the softness of the light dome works perfectly.  I personally prefer the Setup 1 for my mobile studio setup as it allows me to quickly dismount and mount the flash by just the lock and unlock button on the Alpha flashes.

5. Conclusion

Basically thats all that will be covered in this write-up.  Hopefully it will be beneficial for all Alpha Strobe users out there.  The LiteDome XS fits my usage model for a Mobile Studio Photography due to the following factors:

– Quick Deployment – Due to its small size, I can leave the setup as it is and keep the setup intact and assembled form one location to another – e.g just stow it behind the car without dis-assembly in urgent situations.
– Light and Durable – its light and durable material ensures consistency and repeatability in my work-flow.

Should you have any queries or tips that you would like me to add in or share, please do post your queries in the comments.  Happy shooting!!!

Hi! Thank you so much for posting this. I’ve looked everywhere for information about setting up alpha on-location equipment with a softbox and your post is all I’ve found! It’s too bad. My friends told me that I’m screwed because I bought Sony alpha equipment. That I wouldn’t ever be able to “plug-in” to equipment. Now I can show them I CAN shoot through a portable softbox with my trusty Sony! Thanks again!

      Hi Krey,

Thank you and glad you found this article useful. I’m hoping that this article will educate the current alpha users on new lighting possibilities. Do feel free to write to me should there be any queries or questions pertaining to the setup. If you do find any new ways to the setup that you think might benefit other fellow alpha users do let me know. Have fun shooting!!!
